Andarious |
Dolman's Inn (Commonlands) |
Lead | |
Andarious and Kanolth arrive some hours later at Dolman's Inn, in the area formerly known as East Commonlands, after traveling from Nektulos Forest. Andarious looks quite tired upon arriving, and the human Innkeeper
upon quick inspection welcomes him openly. Afterwords Andarious explains, "He knows about us, and our dealings with the guards in Freeport. Let's just
say he's none too fond of Lucan's methods. We will most definitely be safe here tonight."

"Lazy bugger," Kan mockingly spits. "Walking is good for you. Keeps your heart strong and it cleans you
out of the impurities of a decadent lifestyle."
Kan surveys the room, and moves slowly toward the window looking out. He sees a stable, and a well traveled road leading from the west to the east. As the sun has set so too has the road cleared, but the music and laughter coming from the common room downstairs breaks the eery silence of the coming night. He runs the fingers of his good hand along the edge of the windowsill, while he cradles his other arm, and then he unlatches the window and opens it, letting the cool evening breeze in. All the while he keeps his sharp eyes facing out, trying to catch the slightest movement. Nothing. It was the usual when they entered the tavern. The two dark elves were warned to stay in their room. They were told that if they needed anything they could request it to be brought up to them. The reasons for this requested discretion was obvious, what with the patrons that were currently enjoying themselves downstairs, who by their dress were born and bred Freeportians, most likely mercenaries or soldiers. Either way they looked rough and Kan smiled to himself. "We're going to have a quiet night tonight," Kanolth says, almost disappointingly. "I am going to redress my wound, and then head downstairs for something to eat. I'm famished." |

Trellana |
"I still don't get why we couldn't stay in Freeport. We could've made it."
Trellana sighs tiredly as Ramili's voice, laced with irritation, cuts through the cool evening air in the hallway. It persists as the monk fumbles with her key to their room, an incessant nagging that was doing her headache no good. "Tassel's isn't far. They've got rooms for the night, a lot nicer than these." Trellana sets her bags down in the middle of the room, rubbing her temples. If only Ramili was the one missing a tongue -- the nattering had continued all through the afternoon, as they emerged from the forest into the Commonlands. "All I'm saying is they'd better have some damn good ale here. You haven't even told me what we're here for." Without bothering to speak, Trellana exits the room and continues down the stairs, a resigned expression on her face. Maybe food would shut the rogue up for ten seconds. They enter the common room together, and Ramili immediately goes to investigate the menu for tonight, leaving Trellana at their table, hands still at her temples. |

Meanwhile upstairs, "Food sounds good about now, and yes a good drink too, nothing too sweet. And I walk all the time, you know how much footwork I do in
a fight too brother. Just that particular walk is all I meant."
Andarious eyes Kanolth suspiciously and points to the wound. "What's that all about anyway Kanolth? Is that wound of yours not healing, I can only assume you've tried magical healing and your bandaging job doesn't really seem to be improving things." |
Kanolth |
Kan's attention is broken for a moment as he cradles his arm. "Oh it's nothing. I didn't get magical healing at the Sanctum because I
didn't want to worry anyone. It's just a stab wound though, and it is healing. That's why it's annoying right now."
He takes his shirt off, and begins expertly unwrapping and then rewrapping the wound with fresh bandages. Within minutes he is done. Andarious notices a rudimentary stitching job and the greasiness of healing salves, but infection seems to have missed Kan this time. "But.... when we get to Freeport I'll head on over to the Temple of Marr and call on a favor." He puts his shirt back on and heads for the door. "Coming?" |
Andarious |
He smiles, "You think I'd pass on food? Anyway if you want I can cauterize that very nicely for you." The smile widens into a grin.
"Do you smell that? I'm betting a nice chicken stew. Nothing like seared Teir'dal flesh at all." Andarious Takes off down the stairs, somewhat competitively pushing through the door. |

Kan tries desperately to get out of his brother's way as he bounds passed him. He then snickers as he looks around the room one more time. The window
is now unlatched. Bloodied bandages now sit on the table across from Andy's bed and one of the beds has now been lied in. Perfect. He takes in every detail
before closing the door behind him and following Andarious down the stairs. If they are lucky, they might catch something tonight.
They both find themselves in a lively tavern area. Seeing a booth on the far corner of the tavern the two brothers make their way there. "We asked you nicely to stay up in your rooms, dark elf!" the inn keeper hisses at Kan as he goes to the bar to order food and drink for the two of them. "Oh quiet your fears, barkeep," Kan replies with a smirk. "We're not here to start anything. Just here to eat and relax, right Andy? So how about you rustle up me and mine the house special, and we go take our seats at that nice booth over there."

Ramili Cantrips |
Kicking out the chair opposite Trellana and sitting down, Ramili unceremoniously shoves a plate of food towards the monk. At
the disgusted look her employer returns, she sighs and leans forward to pick out a strip of meat from the salad.
"You and your rabbit food." Ramili tilts her chair back and digs into her own plate, her feet propped on the table and her eyes narrowed as she scans the room. "Oy...better watch your purse tonight, Trell. Looks like a rowdy crowd." With a thump, her chair drops to four legs, and Ramili drums her fingers on the table, almost looking excited. She grins at Trellana, who gives her a very stern look, as if to say 'We are leaving when the wine starts flowing'. Whistling, the rogue follows her gaze to the doorway, where two dark elves stand. "Hey...aren't they Sigils?" |
Andarious |
"Room service wasn't coming fast enough," He says to the bartender, and follows it with a smile, "And you know, I get hungry. So let's
have some food and then we'll tuck ourselves away, and hide like few but we can."
Andarious observes Ramili over in the other corner and elbows Kanolth, not very em pathetically as he goes for the wounded side, adding "Check it out." He is careful not to point with anything but his eyes. "Probably for the best tonight stays quiet I'd say Kanolth." He nods to the inkeeper, "Whatever the soup is, and plenty of bread please. Some water as well." |
Kanolth |
A sharp pain shoots down his side, but it was not intentional so Kan stoically brushes it off. Bringing out a mirror, Kanolth looks behind him and curses
under his breath.
"Trellana and.... whatever her name is. Both are from my order." Things had become a little complicated. Just a little. "Well if they decide to come to our table," he says as he snaps his mirror closed and drops it into his pocket, "there's not much we can do about that. I am not going to turn them away because if people are watching us, we don't want to make it look like we're expecting trouble." Kan nods and smiles to the barkeep and then turns to walk toward the table, not paying the slightest attention to the two other sigils in the room. Two mercenaries get in Kanolth's way, but Andarious can see it is merely accidental as the two lumbering drunks move around the injured rogue. Kan does not slow his pace and makes it to the table in moments, taking the most comfortable seat in the booth, and letting out a hiss of relief. |

Trellana |
The night wears on, and as the sun dips below the horizon, the ale begins to flow more freely. Ramili has long since gotten
out of her seat, and she moves easily through the crowd, flashing smiles and picking pockets. Trellana sits back, watching and nursing a glass of fruit juice;
every so often, her eyes stray to Andarious and Kanolth, keeping an eye on all three figures.
The warmth of the hearth and the low buzz of voices makes her drowsy, her headache nearly gone. No one seems inclined to bother her, not with a pretty (if abrasive) half elf in their midst, and perhaps the swirled scars on her arms and neck warned away any lingering eyes. Trellana begins to feel contented, rather considering getting herself a proper drink. Jolting her out of the haze of voices, a sharp shriek comes from across the room. The monk sits up and widens her eyes, focusing just soon enough to see Ramili kick a large, obviously drunk man in the shin. "Ow! Gods, that smarts! Did you see what the little half breed did?" He grabs her wrist and twists, forcing her to drop the object clutched in her hand; predictably it is the man's money purse. Trellana tenses, but doesn't rise until the man attempts to swing at Ramili. She ducks easily, landing a punch of her own in his stomach and doubling him over with pain. As she skips out of the fray, her employer grabs both his arms and holds them behind his back, rendering him mostly unable to hurt the half elf. "Well, sorry, Trell..." Ramili grins in a 'what can you do?' fashion at Trellana's disgusted expression. "To be fair, I didn't try to steal until after he offended me." |
Andarious |
Notcing the pick pocket job, Andarious stifles a laugh and looks at Kanalth, "Really quiet, yessir that's how tonight is going to go. Hrm, check your
own purse yet since you got bumped?"
Andarious checks his own money, "I can see the kind of crowd this place attracts already. I mean, look at us." He sighs seeing what he did, "Sorry about the arm, I just wanted to make sure you paid attention." Andarious goes about casing the joint for highly flammable items, dangerous looking people and people that are probably really dangerous. He's quite pleased to find a lot of the former two categories and not much he'd consider in the later category. |

Kanolth |
Kan chuckles as he casually watches the spectacle. He hungrily chomps down on his meal with abandon, and only occasionally
lifts his eyes to survey the room about him. At the comparison Andy makes about how they fit in with the riff raff at this tavern, Kanolth narrows his eyes as
he chews his food.
"I can count only one person who has ever been skilled enough to pick my pocket," he says with his mouth full. "Needless to say I know all his tricks now so the sticky fingered little bastard will be hard pressed to do so again." Meanwhile far away in the western part of the Commonlands, a black cloaked man watches a caravan leave with his apprentice firmly within the midst of the caravan drivers. He smiles as he watches it depart, but then sneezes all of a sudden. "AAAAAAACHOOOOO!!!" Ridol rubs his nose, and looks up at the stormy sky. The cold rain pelts his face relentlessly. "I must be coming down with a cold, and not surprising since I've been in the rain for quite a while now." "But," Kan continues. "As you can see those of lesser skill are not quite so fortunate." He takes another big bite out of his meat pie and without wiping the gravy and crumbs from his lips, he closes his eyes and chews through the mouthful. Finally opening up one of his eyes lazily to see what Trellana does to get out of the situation her stupid friend put her in. This is going to be a fun show. "Always been interested to see Trellana in action. Let's see what happens, Andy. And if we do get up to help them, gods forbid, then please try not to burn the place down, us along with it." |
Andarious |
"Come on Kan, give me more credit than that for self restraint. You really think I'd let all this good food and drink go to waste?" He grins and
gingerly spoons his soup, enjoying it casually. "Besides I've got no intentions of getting my hands dirty here. I'm sure you can take care of them
if they need help, after all you did say they were from your order." Andarious puts special emphasis on the word 'your' implying pure ownership.
"Besides that, generally if I get involved in a fight it ends with people dying, and usually Innkeepers don't take well to dead people in their inn. I like the idea of sleeping under a roof tonight, after we walked all this way." This statement is added quietly between spoonfuls. He then takes the time to break apart one of his rolls and enjoy it. Casually keeping an eye on the little tussle. |

Despite Andy's best efforts to speak quietly, his voice carries and the mercenaries in the adjacent booth look the
wizard's way. Seeing the garb and staff, they go quiet. He looks imposing and powerful and his face shows neither fear of them, nor care for them. A bad
combination. They look at each other fearfully, and then they swiftly rise from their chairs and leave their drinks behind.
If someone does set the dark elf wizard off, they will be lucky to escape with a bad case of sunburn, so best to get going when the going's good. |
Trellana |
It quickly becomes obvious to Trellana that the man is itching for a fight, in the drunken, angry haze that no amount of
reason will penetrate. A stab of nostalgia courses through her, and instinct long since drummed out of her takes over; she jabs the man in the neck, just under
his ear, inducing muscle spasms. He clutches the side of his neck and howls in pain, then swings at her again, even more wild than before.
Ramili stands back, out of reach of the fight, looking equal parts thrilled and surprised, as Trellana punches the man in the stomach. He slides to the floor, and the rogue claps enthusiastically, before racing forward to hook her arm through Trell's and pull her away from the fight. The mercenary's friends lean down to help him, muttering angrily and casting dark glances to the two girls. "Oy! Protection wanted: Must be obnoxious and dark elven, willing to cleanly dispatch of cheesed off drunkards if necessary." Ramili grins and props her hands on her hips as she approaches the two Sigils, clearly enjoying herself more. Trellana looks back to where Ramili has pulled her, her eyes narrowing for an instant at Kanolth and Andarious. Her expression dares them to make a stupid comment, though whether she'd like to strangle Rames or the two of them more, it is unclear. |
Andarious |
Andarious beams a smile at Remili. "Obnoxious? You want the other one then," he says sardonically, knowing full well Kanolth is the more reserved of
the two brothers, at least without a good drink or five in him.
"But honestly it looks like your friend there has this well under control. I'm content to finish my meal right now." He casually goes back to eating, just watching things out of the corner of his eye. "After all, we did tell the innkeeper we wouldn't cause any trouble." |
Kanolth |
The inn is hushed. The spectacle has drawn the attention of just about anyone and Kan smiles on the inside at this wonderful
opportunity to expose his presence in the area. However he is mildly offended by the upstart rogue, and he lets out a long drawn out sigh.
"That's like the pot calling the kettle black," Kan says to both Andarious and Ramili as he pushes his plate to
the side. He then turns to his brother. "She goes around cutpursing and calls us obnoxious when all we have done here thus far is sit and enjoy a
meal."
Kan does not make any motion to get up out of his seat. He sits there, rolling table crumbs with his fingers as he regards Ramili with less than passable respect. "I do not help vagrants who go round picking fights, regardless of whether they are in my order or not. You want to do that, you can fight them on your own, or have poor Trellana finish your fights for you since your inability to pick the pocket of a drunkard leads me to believe you are incapable of anything worth mentioning." The rough patrons of the house bellow out with laughter. Even the men at Trellana's feet allow the mirth to sooth their wounded pride. |
Andarious |
"I think you're all talk buddy," insists one of the thugs grabbing Andarious by the arm that currently
holds a spoon. The man takes out a knife with his free hand and moves to stab the dark elf.
It all happens in a blur, Andarious moves aside from the crude but skillful thrust and picks up his staff thrusting it out. The man is hurled back as the staff impacts him and Andarious speaks a word of power. Standing stunned the thug is helpless to Andarious's next action, as he summons a swarm of animated blades to attack his assailant they pop with flame, but not so violently as to ignite anything. The whirling maelstrom of steel and fire overtakes the poor man, and before he can regain his senses he is being pummeled. As his wherewithal returns he begins to head for the door, shielding his face and dodging weakly. Andarious looks over the other patrons of the bar with an impassive expression. Many of them are now hidden beneath tables, in booths and even a few behind the bar. He sighs and allows the base of his staff to rest on the floor. "I would like to finish my meal in peace, and I am sure Innkeeper Dolman would prefer that as well." |
Kanolth |
Ramili had pickpocketed someone.... Someone potentially dangerous. It was Kan's intention to diffuse the situation by
ridiculing Ramili which he believed would at least calm the testosterone levels down a little and/or get Ramili riled up enough to instead focus on him. This
would give the patrons something mirthful to watch and it would prevent a full scale meltdown since getting their arses handed to them by a girl was not
something these men would stand for and Kan feared the bar would escalate beyond the controlled violence he was wanting to perpetrate tonight. He could
straighten Ramili out later.... But then as always, things rarely ever go to plan. Regardless, his brother had just ensured that they would be talked about all
the way to Freeport. And well.... that's at least some good that will come out of this.
Kan face palms at Andy's display. The wizard was well within his right, but now all eyes were focused on Andy and him. Not the raise your glass, and thanks for the laughs looks, but the kind of look that made Kanolth excited for something he wasn't quite prepared for yet. A full scale bar brawl. Not only that but he knew his brother.... Andy didn't care about the inn, or the patrons. This was all just a charade. It is just a matter of time now before a body count begins to mount up, unless Andarious had indeed changed for the better over the years they were apart. "Check please," Kan calls out into the silence room as he raises his hand. He then offers his three fellow sigils a nod toward the exit. |
Trellana |
Trellana raises her eyebrows and pushes back the sleeves of her tunic, watching the room intently for any untoward movement.
A certain excitement ripples through her; it had been years since she had to break a few heads in the Common Room. Those were the days...
At Kanolth's look, though, she restrains herself, shoving Ramili in the direction of the exit and easing into the chair beside Kanolth. She raises an eyebrow at him, clearly expressing that she will leave when he does. |
