A Shimmering Portal Opens At the Nektulos Spires |
Lead | |
Two dark elves emerge from the portal Andarious has created, having just recently been in The Grand Sigil of The Wayfarer's office.

Kanolth |
Kanolth looks about the forest. Unimpressed and feeling a bout of depression coming along from not being able to see the sky,
he takes stock of his surroundings.
"Still a shithole." Cradling his left arm to relieve himself of the pain, he descends the spires and heads south. The two brothers pick their way through the forest with practiced ease, staying away from the roads, and eventually following the sound of water. It will take several days to reach Freeport, but Kanolth gives off a little smile that his brother cannot see as he realizes that his brother is with him of his own free will. It brings to him a warmness he had not felt since their first meeting decades earlier in Dawnshroud Peaks. "You want to hit up East Commons Tunnel?" he calls back to Andarious. "It's a little out of our way, but I haven't been there in quite a while. Wonder if the markets are still bustling." |
Andarious |
He makes a point to limber up a bit, stretching almost theatrically. Wondering just how uncomfortable Kanolth is right now, reading the expressions.
"Well, sorry we could have started from The Desert of Ro, I just thought... this was more appropriate. And seeing the old tunnel sounds interesting, if
not the most productive. You never know though."
He looks around, "This place always brings back memories, how about we exchange stories along the walk?" He hops down off the spires, and the sound of clicking bones might indicate he has broken something. But then of course there's also the local skeletons that always dwell around the spires, and it quickly becomes apparent that they have sensed the wizard, who just looks at one and watches it burst into splinters of bone and ash, before point his hand at another to similar effect. Then it's quiet again. As if nothing happened at all he continues, "I just really came to the realization, you don't know much about our father. I could start there if you want." |
Kanolth |
Kan stops.... And looks Andy's way with a look of annoyance. He knows it is not going to stop Andy from recounting about
his.... their father, but he says it anyway.
"I've been listening to you talk for almost ten years..... I'd appre-" He sighs when Andy cuts him off and with a resigned shrug he walks alongside him as Andarious begins his story. |
Andarious |
Undaunted he presses on with his story, smiling as he remembers. "You know, he took me fishing once, it was a strange experience. It's not really the
sort of thing our people do with their youth, but he got the idea from a human at the Temple."
He grins, "I didn't have any fun at all, it was just a ways north of here, and all I could do was complain about being bored. But father was teaching me some lessons he thought very important. He was right, and now... well." He trails off, looking over at his brother, the one for so much of his life he had wished he had. Yet for so long they did not even know of one another. |

Kanolth |

Kan remains silent for a little while. Longer than he should have for he was waiting for Andy to continue on. But then he
looks over at him and offers a confused smirk.
"He taught you lessons, while fishing?" he chuckles. "Must have been a pretty creative guy." He remembers Garen then, a High Priest of Erollisi Marr who had looked after him from child to adult. Fishing was boring, and that feeling of boredom was well remembered despite Kanolth wishing for those childhood days to come back. |

Andarious |
He chortles, gripping his side, briefly as he walks on, taking a fairly decent pace. He avoids the main road, as Kanolth had suggested. "Yes, indeed
patience was one of them, didn't do well did he? For that matter, knowing when to be quiet. We never actually caught anything. It was more the fresh air
and time together that was important I think."
Kanolth |
Kanolth's face contains an amused grin. Andy loved small talk, but nothing that was this personal. His small talk
consisted of commenting on how he was going to burn somebody, and to what degree of crispiness his new spell could char even the insides of a fire giant. And
never had Andarious spoken of their father, not since the both of them discovered the truth that Kanolth and Andarious actually shared one. Fla'Zeal and
Selpha.... secret lovers as Kanolth had found out in his youth.... had condemned themselves to death with the affair they shared. And only half a century later
had he learned that Fla'Zeal had had a son before him. It was his good friend Andarious Rosethorn.
Andy and Kan rarely spoke of it, and Kanolth was more than a little curious about why he was brought up now and with such fondness to boot. "Mm." he nods. "It sounds like you went fishing often. Although patience and silence are definitely not among your virtues, Andy. I'd say he failed miserably in teaching you both. Although I must say, you make a splendid fish sandwich." Kanolth found his words ironic and mildly funny. Andarious had proven to be very patient when he was imprisoned within the dagger. And at times he was often silent, contemplating the world about him of which he was never a part of. He chuckles at his jest, a strange hint of sadness reminding him of the grim fate that Andarious might have had had he not finished his quest. |

Andarious |
He shakes his head. "Just the one time really, that I remember. It actually wasn't long before he sent me to Northern Ro. One of the last things I
really remember doing with him. I wonder if at that time... did father knew about you. You think your mother would have told him?"
Kanolth |
"Not a chance," Kanolth replies. He rubs his temple as he tries to recall those events from the dark recesses of his memory. It was so long
ago. "Then.... well.... a lot of other people knew I guess. My mother's family for one. But there was a lot riding on what she was trying to
accomplish back then so she did very little to put herself at risk." He raises his eyebrow as he thinks about it.... Like that helped her in the
end.... "I never saw Fla'Zeal.... at least I don't remember ever meeting him."

Andarious nods, "Father wasn't around the city all that much towards the end of his life, I was already old enough to fend for myself with little
supervision. He would just make sure that the house was safe, and I had everything I needed for my studies. He spent a lot of his time traveling between
Lavastorm Mountains and home."
"Hrm, I have a hard time buying that he knew and never told either of us, your mother probably concealed it from him. It would have been the smart thing to do." He shakes his head, "I'm so like father in a many ways, some secrets you just can't ignore." |
Kanolth |
"Please.... you're nothing like your father. You're both idealists, in your own way, aye, but you're not stupid like
he was. You wouldn't put yourself in a such a vulnerable position as he did with my mother and you never really keep secrets of this nature. What they did
was not regarded in very favorable light, Andy and I wouldn't be surprised if they both decided to keep it to themselves to protect us and the established
order. But, come to think of it, if they were really concerned about that, they wouldn't have slept together to begin with."
He shakes his head and offers a grunt. "But talking about this kinda stuff is pointless. We cannot know what was going on inside their heads. My mother wasn't a saint by any stretch. She was a politician.... a whore when she needed to be.... A manipulative, conniving, selfish, rebellious and overly ambitious whore and I see her affair with your father as more of a deliberate slap in the face to her husband than anything else. It was all a game, Andy. It was a move made in a game of politics and scandal. Heh. Sometimes that's how my life feels. As one big slap in the face of society and its many twisted ideals." Kan scrunches up his face at the sound of his words. He believed his words fully, but she was his mother, and he found that he could not hate her for what she was. Ever.

"Well... you know why I married Jadarose right Kan? Not so different at all, it was a bit more altruistic I feel though, I actually married her for one
thing. It was just to keep her ex husband away. To be honest I don't even remember the guys name now. I just remember she was terrified of him, and I liked
her well enough. Micro politics Kan that was it."
"And you're a slap in the face alright Kanolth. Sometimes though, we all kind of need that to wake up a bit. Anyway, no sense dwelling on all this. You're right about that." |
Kanolth |
Kan smirks at his Andy's confirmation that he was indeed a troublesome inkie. And then he lets the thought hang for a
while before piping up.
"Did you at least get any from Jadarose when you were married?" |
Andarious |
"What kind of question is that? Plenty... when we were both around anyway." He sighs, "Look is that all really important? I don't even
really know what happened to her so I'd rather not dwell too much on it for now."
Andarious finds himself thinking about how his fathers vulnerable position might have had more to do with him, than Kanolths mother. He shakes it off, "Anyway we aught to be making time for East commons if we keep going a few more hours. Would you rather find rest at the inn there or make camp in the forest cover?" |
Kanolth |
Kanolth lets out a playfully sadistic grin at the miffed response of his older brother. He then puts
his hands up in mock defense. "I was only asking. Jadarose was a fine lady."
He looks ahead and sees naught but the murky mist of the forest. Not even the air had thinned since their arrival, meaning they still had a way to go. Kan estimated about half a day to the edge of the forest if they hustled, maybe more. "I think the inn will do me fine. I want them to see us coming. Maybe even start something with us so as to give us ample opportunity to send a message. Although that's just wishful thinking on my part."

"That was the answer I expected, mostly. I hate camping out if I can help it anyway, it's pretty damp here and not the warmest this time of
year." He presses on with the march, quickening his pace a bit.
"So, did I miss anything while I was locked in the gnomes basement?" the statement is followed by a somewhat ambiguous laugh. |
Kanolth |
Kan feels the sting of a confirmation he had desired since Andy's return. Damn. He never told Andy about the basement.
And all this time he thought Andy was either a construct or a more progressive form of insanity where Kan's entire world had been twisted to suit his
preferred version of it. Even so much so as to have Andarious join Sigils and be recognized as one of their own. Kan shakes his head of his troubling
thoughts.
"A lot has happened, I guess," is all he can say while he speeds up his own pace to match Andy's. A lot had happened, but Kan couldn't recall very much about it at this moment. "You know, that's the nature of Sigils.... Something is always happening. I get my kicks from it from time to time, but I have kept a low profile as of late." |
Andarious |
In a strange way, seeing the expression confirms Andarious's own doubts about the same situation. "Yes yes, a lot has happened. All that aside,
personally anything? Have you gotten laid yet. Only the gods and us know how awkward it must have all been for you. You gave up a hell of a lot for me brother,
I really am grateful." There is emphasis on the statement 'a lot'.
Kanolth |
"Naw. I haven't enjoyed a woman's company in a while and having you lurking about didn't make it any easier. But
knowing what I know now, I would have ended your torment a lot sooner. I took too long with it and almost lost you, so I am just happy you're back."
He shifts his bandolier when he realizes it had tightened over his wound, and offers a sigh of relief. He then thinks for a moment. "I drank a lot. I spent a lot of that ten thousand plat I saved up to free you that I no longer needed, but I never got any. And then I got a tip off of someone I met in Qeynos about the suspects in that treason case the Wayfarers were having me look into, and one thing led to another.... Once I had secured the items I needed to destroy Fatestealer I came for you right away. Needless to say, I wish you were there when I finally plunged my dagger into Wren Simsy's chest. It was a long time coming for both of us." He then pats Andarious on the shoulder. "Who'd a known you had found your own way out anyway. Hehehe." |
Andarious |
"Who'da known?" He shrugs. "Hrm... a couple drinks and a couple ladies. Sounds like the kind of thing you can order up in the right parts of
Freeport, am I right?"
"We should probably talk business first though, what else should I know going into this situation? Any targets of opportunity I should be on the lookout for? What about potential threats?" |
