The document that follows is the original charter under which the Sigils were established in November 1999. Several amendments have been made over the years to address questions that have arisen and new developments in the world of Norrath. These amendments follow the original document in a subsequent post.
We the Sigils stand for the aspects of Norrath. We are each in our way a Sigil, or magical signet, that represents our land and its many different faces. We have shunned among ourselves the distinctions of class and race that might otherwise have kept us apart in order to represent to those around us those parts of Norrath that we aspire to become most closely associated.
Each member Sigil holds a title and a jewel. Some are Sigils of Might and Valor, some of Magic and Enchantment, others of Song and still others of the Holy Orders. Our jewels are our badges, our signets, marking us as favored and chosen.
Above us we have a High Sigil, a Chancellor and four Grand Sigils. The High Sigil is our guide in Norrath and the Grand Sigils represent our orders and give the High Sigil a voice of council. They hold the power to invite new members and lead us on hunts and quests. There are four Grand Sigils: the Mighty, the Holy, the Arcane and the Wayfarers. Beneath the Mighty are Warriors, Paladins, Shadow Knights and Ranger. Beneath the Holy are Clerics, Monks, Druids and Shaman. Beneath the Arcane are Wizards, Enchanters, Necromancers and Magicians. Beneath the Wayfarers are Bards and Rogues. It is the responsibility of every Sigil, not only those upon the council, to keep their fellow Sigils. Each of us is responsible to aid the other, no matter what their creed, class, race or Sigil.
In the case of conflict within our guild, there is appointed one Consul. It is the Consul's duty to arbitrate any conflicts that arise among us needing a neutral viewpoint. This Sigil is given the authority to judge between us. His goal is to create peace and bring harmony. When called upon he even has the authority to arbitrate between the High Sigil and the Officers. His judgment shall be final, though it takes a full vote of High Sigil, Consul and Sigils to revoke anyone's membership in the Sigils, he has the power to bring that to a vote.
In order to become a member of the Sigils, the individual must be known to us first; therefore we have a period of Candidacy. The prospective Sigil is introduced to the rest of us at a guild meeting and for a set period of time, we get to k now that person. When we are ready, we then vote on that Candidate's election into our number. Should that person be accepted, he or she will be given an invitation to join our number either by the Grand Sigil of his order or by the High Sigil during a guild meeting at which the new member will have chosen a Sigil and presented it to the assembled members. At this meeting the new Sigil will be presented with his Sigil piece.
A Sigil's duties are simple. Be your Sigil. Live your life in Norrath along the boundaries you have set for yourself. Be respectful to your elders and to the other Sigils, but always remember that you have a purpose in Norrath.
There are few things which can get you thrown out of the Sigils. Those generally involve situations like Kill Stealing, Abuse, Profanity, etc. Other than the basic rules of conduct among the peoples of Norrath, a Sigil may only be expelled if a situation arises in which the Consul must be called in to arbitrate and the entire guild votes for it.
The Sigils Guild is dedicated to the increased awareness of the inner workings of Norrath that comes with experience and dedication. We seek to know the world in which we live and fight so that we may show that world to others and open their eyes more fully to those things they might otherwise have missed. We live our Sigils to their fullest meaning and become ideals and symbols ourselves, in this way, each of us may be called the Sigil of something meaningful.
