Instead, she focuses on the thirst in her throat, her desire for a drink, and the muscles in her feet. They always fascinated her. The way they move like waves, heel down and curve to her toe, lift, heel, toe, lift, and the door is pushed open almost by accident.

Sounds overwhelm her. It's been a while.

She stands at the threshold, her head still bowed, amazingly uncomfortable. The pleasant chatter and pockets of laughter assault her ears and feel phony, staged.
